About us

A regional coalition of 14 San Diego colleges and universities supporting system-impacted students.

Our Mission

The Transfer Coalition Initiative (TCI) brings together 14 San Diego colleges and universities to support current and prospective students whose lives have been impacted by the justice system. Our mission is to remove barriers to higher education, increase access to resources, and create pathways for student success. We believe that every student deserves the chance to pursue education, build community, and shape their future with confidence.

Our Vision

The Transfer Coalition Initiative (TCI) began as a grant-funded collaboration among colleges and universities in San Diego that saw a shared need: currently or formerly incarcerated and system-impacted students were navigating fragmented supports without clear guidance or consistent pathways. By building a coalition, we set out to strengthen access to higher education and create a regional toolkit that could connect students, educators, and allies.

Today, TCI works together to ensure that students impacted by the justice system can transition into and through higher education with dignity, support, and opportunity. What started locally is a growing initiative — with the vision of expanding and helping other regions develop their own networks of collaboration and support.
